We had an excellent ending to the year 2010. We made it through Christmas, which we were hoping to do before the boys arrived. The week after on 12-28 we had our 35 week check up. We left the doctors office with our c-section scheduled for the next day at noon. My OB had concern because the boys were both breach, that if my water broke that either umbilical cord would prolapse and give major threat to the boys. Due to that worry I was to be admitted that night. We had to head home and get our hospital bags and eat dinner and head up to the hospital. I was so excited to have the end in site. We got settled in and I got hooked up to all the monitors. Mitch and I tried to get some sleep and I showed not a lot of action that night having minimal contractions through the night.
Due to the great news that I didn't contract much they decided to cancel my section. They decided that I was in a safe place since I was in the hospital and if I wasn't going to contract very much then the boys were better off staying in as long as possible. I was needless to say devastated and upset. My contractions started up at 9:30 and they said unless they got hard enough to start true labor I wouldn't be having my section until there was another sign they should come out.
With that said the boys didn't like that option. My labor continued throughout the day and got more intense. That evening a specialist Dr. came to see me who makes decisions on when preemie babies should be taken if it is better for them out of the whom. Once he finally came to see me I was dilated to a 4 and 80% ephased. He said" Ok, we will be taking you back and have the babies out in the next 30 minutes". I was in love at that very moment, he instantly became my favorite person in the world.
Everything during the section went smoothly. We only got to see the boys for a split second before they took them away into the NICU to be checked out thoroughly since they were so early. Cooper came out first and came at 10:18pm and was 6lbs. 11 oz and 18.5inces long. Cohen was next and came out at 10:20pm. and was 6lbs. 11oz. and 19inces long. They shocked all the nursing and Dr. staff. They didn't need any oxygen or help with anything. They spent the night back with the NICU staff until the next morning. They came wheeling into my room at 9:30 the next morning. They looked beautiful and I was so excited they got to come out and stay in our room. They kept up their body temperature and all vitals looked perfect. ( I thought they would be perfect in every way)
We got started right away with breast feeding and again another surprise, they did great. Babies at 35 weeks usually don't do any of these things.
